There’s something ugly about the thought of Lawrence Taylor’s Super Bowl XXV ring being auctioned off to a wealthy bidder. Â New York Giants DE Osi Umenyiora doesn’t like the thought of it either. Â See his campaign after the jump.
We learned Friday that Taylor’s son is behind the online sale, with his father’s permission. The Hall of Fame linebacker gifted the ring to his son and said doesn’t have a problem with him peddling it.
A current member of the New York Giants feels differently. Defensive end Osi Umenyiora is starting a Twitter campaign to restore the ring to its rightful owner:
Bidding for the ring ends Saturday night. On Saturday morning, the leading bid stood at $98,525.
Something has stirred Umenyiora to act on behalf of Lawrence Taylor. Something noble (aside from the slightly troubling campaign for 1,000,000 Twitter followers — he sits at about 24,000 at this writing).
We’ll keep an eye on this one.
