Eagles quarterback Michael Vick started playing chess in prison, but on Tuesday he played in a friendlier environment, taking on several children at the Eagles Youth Partnership’s annual chess tournament.

Unfortunately for Vick, he met his match in the form of some teenagers who wiped up the chessboard with him.

“When he didn’t want to trade his queen, I said, ‘He’s intimidated by me now,’” high school senior Jowel Ammons told Philly.com of his easy victory over Vick.

Trash talk from the chess club aside, Vick said he believes the game has made him a more thoughtful, contemplative person and a better decision maker.

“I liked going head to head, mano a mano,” Vick said. “I don’t think it helped me as a football player. It’s helped me make good decisions – that’s what it’s done for me.”

Taking some time in the offseason to play with kids was certainly a good decision.
