Money issues are never good between groupmates. 9 out of 10 times…it ends in a break up, and while LMFAO are kind of annoying…there’s no denying they make some really fun music! Let’s hope this gets resolved quickly. Details on the growing rift below.
(NY Post) – Sources tell us the big-haired duo Redfoo and Sky Blu — whose infuriatingly catchy songs have been covered by the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Ricky Martin on “Glee†and even reportedly made it onto Syrian President Assad’s iTunes playlist — are warring behind the scenes, and booking separate DJ gigs at clubs.
Redfoo (a ka Stefan Kendal Gordy) and his nephew Sky Blu (a ka Skyler Austen Gordy) are the son and grandson of Motown founder Berry Gordy. Their cheeky songs have been played everywhere from clubs to ads for Kia Motors, and the pair performed with Madonna at this year’s Super Bowl halftime.
But aside from the NFL gig in February, the rappers — whose lyric “Every Day I’m Shufflin’†inspired a swathe of Jeremy Lin Knicks fan signs — have since rarely taken the stage together, and sources say a growing rift between the two over money has developed.
“Redfoo has always been promoting himself, doing his own thing,†a source said — resulting in his getting more $100,000-a-night DJ gigs than Sky Blu. He has a regular residency called “Party Rock†at Vegas club Marquee, and recently spun at the opening of Marquee the Star in Sydney, Australia. Sources say Redfoo’s use of the band’s “Party Rock†title for his personal events has become a sore point.
On Tuesday, Sky Blu performed at the three-year anniversary party of the Chandelier Room at the W Hoboken, and told the crowd it was his first performance in three months. Guests included Joe Jonas, Jamal Woolard, Marlon Wayans and castmates from Bravo’s “Real Housewives of New Jersey.
LMFAO are planning a world tour together, starting in Sweden in May, and will perform on Fox’s “American Idol†tonight. Their rep didn’t get back to us.
