The San Francisco 49ers, the NFL, and the mayors of San Francisco and Oakland all released statements today related to the numerous violent incidents that took place at or near Candlestick Park Saturday evening during and after the 49ers-Raiders game. There were reportedly two shootings and several other attacks, which the police are currently investigating. There is reportedly a suspect in hand for one of the shootings, but updates are still coming on.  Read more after the jump.

49ERS STATEMENT ON INCIDENT AT CANDLESTICK PARK

“Our entire organization is hopeful for the recovery of the victims from last night’s violence. These kinds of events are disquieting to everyone in the Bay Area community. Today, we are working to assist the San Francisco Police Department in any way possible to understand how and why this happened.

The San Francisco 49ers will continue to gather information regarding the incidents reported, through ongoing communication with the San Francisco Police Department, stadium security and medical personnel. The 49ers’ primary concern has always been, and will continue to be, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for our fans on game day. We will be work with the SFPD and efforts to conduct investigations into these matters.”

NFL STATEMENT ON LAST NIGHT’S GAME

“We deplore the activities of a handful of fans at last night’s game between the 49ers and Raiders. We pledge our full support to Mayors Lee and Quan and to state and local law enforcement agencies. We are carefully reviewing the events to make sure we have a full understanding of what took place. We will work with our clubs and law enforcement agencies to ensure responsible fan conduct at all NFL games and a safe and enjoyable game experience for all fans in attendance.”

MAYOR EDWIN M. LEE & OAKLAND MAYOR JEAN QUAN

The following statement was issued today by San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee and Oakland Mayor Jean Quan with the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders in regard to violence that occurred at Saturday’s Preseason Game at Candlestick Park:

“Violence will not be tolerated in either of our stadiums. The incidents at Candlestick Park last night after the San Francisco 49ers versus Oakland Raiders game are completely unacceptable and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Fans come to our stadiums to enjoy an afternoon of football, not to be subjected to intimidation or violence. These games are family events and the types of images we witnessed last night have no place in our arenas.

Public safety remains our top priority and we are doing everything we can to ensure that when fans come to our cities and our sports arenas they have a positive, safe and enjoyable experience. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families for a speedy recovery.”

Suspects are believed to be in custody in regard to the more serious incidents last evening.
