Marketing space will be at a premium as more than a million car enthusiasts from around the United States are expected gather along a 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue, a main Detroit artery.

The event, which started off as a fundraiser for a local soccer field in 1995, has evolved into the largest one-day automotive event in the world — not to mention one of the most competitive marketing events for domestic carmakers.

“They all want to come back with some bragging rights,” said Gerard Schmid, dealer principal of Ed Schmid Ford, which is located along Woodward. “There’s a big competition between the manufacturers.”
