The Giants tacked a year onto head coach Tom Coughlin’s contract, which will now carry him through the 2012 season.

“As I was when I was hired in 2004, I am grateful for the opportunity,” said Coughlin in a statement. “To be the head coach of the New York Giants is the fulfillment of a dream for somebody who grew up where I grew up and when I grew up.”

Coughlin is 69-50 in seven years with the Giants, including 10-6 last season when New York fell a tiebreaker short of a playoff berth. He’s taken the team to postseason four times, won two NFC East crowns and the Super Bowl XLII crown.
