Lately, Opel has shown no signs of slowing down, with news of new models popping up with regularity. But while most of those models are based on the Astra, Opel’s newest offering could be based on the larger Insignia, taking the shape of a crossover.
This isn’t the first time Opel has toyed with the idea of a large crossover, having worked on such a project that was shelved in 2008 when the economy collapsed. Now that things are looking better, the project is reportedly being revived.
The crossover would offer three rows of seats and either front- or all-wheel drive on a high-riding version of the Insignia’s platform. The model would be targeted particularly at the rapidly expanding Chinese market, with the Citroën DS5 in its sights, but could theoretically make it to these shores as a Buick to join the Insignia-based Regal sedan – or if Opel has its way, under its own badge.
