Wonderworks, an upside down amusement park, opened in Myrtle Beach, North Carolina. There are other locations in Florida and Tennessee but this one is the closest to NYC. Myrtle Beach, S.C. is head over heels for its newest attraction: WonderWorks, known as the upside-down “amusement park for the mind.”
The 10-story, 50,000-square-foot structure, which has a leaning facade designed to look like it is standing on its head, is chock full of more than 100 interactive exhibits designed to appeal to the kid in all of us.
Visitors can try their hand at landing a NASA spacecraft at Shuttle Landers, brave 74-mile-per-hour hurricane-force winds and form 3-D impressions of their bodies into a wall of 40,000 plastic pins at WonderWall. They can also lie on a bed of 3,500 nails, create their own roller coasters, do a ropes course, make bubbles and play “Lazer” tag.
WonderWorks is located at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, where in 2010 the same company opened Soar & Explore, comprising a Zipline Adventure over water and a pirate-themed Ropes Challenge Course.
A 200-seat, indoor/outdoor Works café will open soon, along with a full bar.
The company, which also operates WonderWorks locations in Orlando, Fla., Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Panama City Beach, Fla, is equipped with meeting space and facilities for group and educational tours.
