(NOLA) – New Orleans officials have confirmed that 28-year-old Renetta Lowe, known as “Magnolia Shorty,” was shot and killed while sitting inside a vehicle in eastern New Orleans. The second victim, also shot while in the vehicle, has been identified as 25-year-old Jerome “Man Man” Hampton.
Both died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body and were pronounced dead at the scene, chief investigator for the New Orleans Coroner’s Office John Gagliano said.
Hampton has has several high profile run-ins with the law, including being arrested for allegedly assisting notorious pal Ivory Brandon “B-Stupid” Harris in a 2006 shooting. The charges were eventually dropped by prosecutors.
He was also acquitted by a jury of armed robbery charges in 2004. The robbery allegedly preceded the fatal shooting of the Rev. J.T. Hill.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m. in the 6300 block of Bridgehampton Drive in eastern New Orleans, Lowe and Hampton were found inside of a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The NOPD Major Offense Log states that, in regard to this incident, “Several armed perps driving possibly white crown vic with tinted windows shot victims several times.”
The death of Lowe, a popular local rap artist, was unofficially confirmed Monday afternoon across social media as well as on a local radio station.
The shooting occured on a violent day across the city, with a man killed in Algiers in the morning and another killed in the 7th ward Monday night.
