Apple did something they should have done long ago, and thats trademark their retail store design. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a registration certificate to Apple last week, Apple decided to trademark their glass-panel fronts and recessed lighting. The trademark in general covers “the design and layout of a retail store” which several competitors have copied. Over the years Apple has trademarked their “there’s an app for that” and the Lightning trademark from Harley-Davidson. However Apple has failed to get some deisigns trademarked such as the itunes icon inwhich they lost the patent case to social media network Myspace. And currently Apple is in a long court battle with Microsoft and Amazon about the name app store.
