Swisher and Garcia, an actress on ABC’s “Better Without You,” plan to visit US troops in November, marking their first trip since they married in December 2010.

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl This day in sports history…On August 16, 1948, baseball legend George Herman “Babe” Ruth dies from cancer in New York City. For two days following, his body lay in state at the main entrance to Yankee Stadium, and tens of thousands of people stood in line to pay their last respects. He was buried in Hawthorne, New York.

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl The Derek Jeter 3,000 hit lovefest continued this weekend as his New York Yankees teammates honored the Captain with a statue — of himself — before Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Commissioned by Jorge Posada and CC Sabathia, the 225-pound stainless steel sculpture is a likeness of Jeter waving his cap above a giant “3,000.” The Yankees also honored Jeter with crystal vase and other goodies on Saturday.  Check it out after the jump…

Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter is all those things (and more), but he’s also one of the biggest players in the sports scene, especially in his native New York.
