MLB Changes Mind, Dirk Nowitzki To Throw World Series Game 3 First Pitch After All

After it emerged earlier Wednesday that the Rangers’ desire to have Nowitzki throw out the first pitch before one of their home games against the St. Louis Cardinals had been rejected by Major League Baseball, league officials reversed course and announced hours later that Nowitzki would be invited to throw the ceremonial pitch before Saturday’s Game 3.

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl Nelson Cruz saw the ball slicing off Allen Craig’s bat, sprinted to the foul line and slid, desperately trying to run down the tailing liner.  “It was close,” the right fielder said. He came up just short, and so did the Texas Rangers. Craig’s pinch-hit drive landed an inch or two in front of Cruz’s outstretched glove for a go-ahead single off reliever Alexi Ogando in the sixth inning, and that was the difference as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Rangers 3-2 Wednesday night in a chilly World Series opener.

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl Prince Fielder peeled off his Brewers jersey, his season certainly over and maybe his career in Milwaukee, as well.  He was busy hugging his teammates and saying goodbye. “I had to clear the throat once, but it was all right,” Milwaukee’s burly first baseman said Sunday night after the Brewers were beaten 12-6 and eliminated by the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL championship series.
