Auto Talk: Toyota Plug-in Prius Priced At $32,000* And Prius V To Start At $26,400*

The Prius Plug-in Hybrid has a price: $32,000. That’s the just-announced MSRP for the base plug-in hybrid, with the top-of-the-line Prius Plug-in Hybrid Advanced jumping all the way up to $39,525. Because the both of these Prius Plug-in models have a 4.4-kWh, 176 pound battery pack, it should qualify for a federal tax credit of $2,500. Toyota has also announced that the larger Prius V, which does not qualify for any tax incentives, will start at $26,400. *All vehicles are subject to a $760 delivery fee. The original car was unveiled at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, we saw the FT-86 II this year at the Geneva Motor Show, along with the chassis and powertrain of its Subaru counterpart, we then saw the Scion interpretation at the New York Auto Show, and finally, a slightly revised version of the car is on display here in Frankfurt. Toyota doesn’t just make crafts for landlubbers. The Japanese automaker is venturing into the ocean, and this isn’t the first time that Toyota engineers have put on life jackets. In the late 90’s, Toyota tried its hand at building a boat targeted at towable watersports enthusiasts. The Toyota Epic was a Lexus-engined ski boat that was built for a few years before the automaker backed away in 2001. Now, Toyota is ready to head to sea with a very different type of craft. Auto Talk: Toyota to stop importing Camry models from Japan

Toyota is allowing its North American teams a bit more freedom to build cars that best suit the market in which they work. Earlier in the year, Toyota announced that American designers would be more keyed in to model development, and now comes word that the automaker will no longer be importing Japanese-built Camry sedans into our market.
