Breast cancer awareness month is coming up quickly and today, runners in Denver, Colorado have gotten to together to participate in a marathon that will also raise money towards finding a cure.
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund Reverses Planned Parenthood Decision
Yesterday Marisa reported that the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund was cutting it’s funds to the Planned Parenthood organization. The Komen org. was “officially” cutting funds to PP because they are currently under investigation by Congress but sources believed that it was due to PP’s abortion services. Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund Gets Anti-Abortion VP; Stops Funding Planned Parenthood Breast Exams
This is absolutely awful, but there is a silver lining in it all. First the back story: Breast cancer charity giant Susan G. Komen for the Cure on Tuesday did not renew a grant to Planned Parenthood to fund breast exams. Their new VP has publicly stated her opposition to abortion, a service provided at some Planned Parenthood facilities. Their official “reason” was that Planned Parenthood under investigation in Congress. Yet…the groups that prompted that investigation are anti-abortion advocacy organizations that have long criticized Planned Parenthood over the fact that some of its clinics offer abortions. Since pulling out, Komen has received TONS of criticism, and donations from others have come in all over to PP. AND, this has significantly increased awareness that Planned Parenthood does breast exams. I definitely didn’t know! More details on this debacle below. Marisa Mendez
