Yasiin Bey Is Now Allowed To Leave South Africa After Apologizing To Government

Yasiin Bey, who most of us know as ‘Mos Def,’ is now being allowed to leave South Africa after apologizing to the government. He will now be considered a “undesirable person” and can no longer re-enter back into South Africa in the future. Earlier in the year, he was arrested after trying to leave South Africa using a World Passport.

Yasiin Bey’s South African Court Date Delayed

Yasiin Bey had his day in South African court, Tuesday (March 8th). It started out as a rough morning when he was turned away for wearing a turban. According to TMZ reports, refused to take it off and left court, showing up later with a lose scarf covering his head. Court proceedings went on rather quickly, as the state requested a postponement of the official court hearing while they finish their investigation into the matter. In case you missed it, Yasiin Bey was arrested and detained earlier this year for presenting a ‘world passport’ when trying to leave the South African after overstaying his visitors permit. The ‘world passport’ better known as, “World Government of World Citizens” is not recognized by the country. More below.

Brooklyn born rapper Yasiin Bey – formerly known as Mos Def- moved himself out of the United States to Cape Town, South Africa back in 2013.At the top of the year, (January 15th) he was arrested and banned from the country for five years after presenting a ‘world passport’ when trying to leave the South African after overstaying his visitors permit. The ‘world passport’ better known as, “World Government of World Citizens” is not recognized by the country. Yasiin Bey Arrested In South Africa For Fake Passport

Brooklyn born rapper Yasiin Bey – formerly known as Mos Def- moved himself out of the United States back in 2013 and has been residing in Cape Town, South Africa since. It has been reported Friday (January 15th) that he’s been arrested and banned from the country for five years for presenting a fake passport when trying to leave the South African after overstaying his visitors permit. According to The Home Affairs ministerial spokesperson Mayihlome Tshwete, who tweeted out information about Yasiin Bey’s arrest, he came to South Africa legally using his United States passport, however has overstayed the length of his visitor’s permit. When attempting to depart South Africa, he presented “world passport” which turned out to be a false document and now has 14 days to leave the country with the correct paperwork. South Africa’s Home Affairs spokesperson admits he’s a fan but “the law is the law.” Hopefully this can all get worked out! Check out the gallery for more.


Protestors Boycotted A Pharrell Concert In South Africa Because Of His Ties With Popular Retailer

Pharrell was scheduled to perform Monday (September 21) in Cape Town, South Africa. However, over 500 people showed up outside the venue to protest the promo deal between him and South African retailer Woolworths. Woolworths is reported to have trade ties with Israel. This caused fury among the people Cape Town, they claim “By working with Woolworths, Pharrell supports Israel, a country that supports the oppression of Palestine, a country that is the new apartheid state.” Read more below.
