A bit of tape on these otherwise ordinary-looking cars have rumors flying that the next-generation Mustang GT500 could be twin-turbocharged. (Well, the tape isn’t the sole reason behind the speculation; the intercoolers visible in their grilles are fanning the flames, too.) But we’re not buying it. Superchargers also need intercoolers and, as we previously reported, the next evolution of the Shelby GT500—due as a 2013 model—again will be supercharged. This time, it’ll have upwards of 600 hp. Carroll Shelby has made quite a name for himself over the years, so much so that he has an entire licensing division to handle how the legendary Shelby name and logo can be used. Shelby @funkmasterflex
According to the internet rumormill, that pattern isn’t going to change any time soon. Car and Driver reports that the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will boast as much as 620 horsepower. Naturally, the powerplant providing all those ponies will be a supercharged V8, in this case bored out to displace 5.8 liters instead of the 5.4 we’ve been seeing for the last several years. @funkmasterflex
