4:45pm EST UPDATE: According to tweets from various New York news outlets at a press conference earlier today, 21 firearms were confiscated during yesterday’s raid. They were laid out during the conference, and you can check the pics in the gallery. The “Hot N*gga” rapper has reportedly plead not guilty to conspiracy to commit 2nd degree murder, conspiracy to commit 2nd degree assault, gun and drug charges. The full list is also in the gallery. His bail is currently set at $2 million. The GS9 crew – which NYPD say are members of the Crips – had been under investigation for two years before they were arrested. Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan detailed how the sale of crack cocaine supplied funds for the crew to purchase firearms, and reportedly called the guys “mindless thugs.”
Bobby Shmurda arrested? Who didn’t see this one coming! According to Karen Civil, the “Hot N*gga” rapper – real name Ackquille Pollard – was arrested earlier today while at Quad Studios in New York City. Numerous weapons and members of his entourage and GS9 crew (including the Epic Records exec who signed him, Sha Money XL) were allegedly taken into custody as well. This is certainly not Bobby’s first run-in with the law, having just been arrested for weed back in October. Bobby was definitely a street dude before his unexpected hit earlier this year, so it comes as no surprise that he’s still caught up in some suspicious activity. No word on whether Rowdy Rebel was involved. We’ll keep you updated as we know more!
Some major shakeups going on in the Def Jam building as of late! Sha Money XL is the latest to leave his post, leaving his gig as SVP of A&R for IDJ and heading to Epic Records as the EVP of Urban A&R. “As I embark on this new Epic journey,” Sha said in a statement, “I have a great vision for what the new record industry should be like, the music, the experience and lifestyle.” Congrats and good luck!
Some of us are guilty of NOT being a fan of Trinidad James. The “All Gold Everything” rapper was portrayed as a silly dude with some teeth that is a tad bit off. “N***a, N***a, N***a,” Def Jam’s VP, Sha Money XL is saying knock it off, because “music is music”. Music is music, but not all music is good. “I think it’s really still about the music. Trinidad [James] created a record that everyone can say they liked,” he said. “No matter how much they make fun of him and mash him up with the jokes, they like the damn record.” I don’t know about everybody liking that record. I like the female remix something serious though. Drop down bottom and let me know what you think about this dude.
