Empire State Building Getting New Restaurant In 2013

The Empire State Building will be getting a new restaurant in the new year. It’s going to be a 100-seat restaurant on the ground floor. According to the Wall Street Journal, the as-yet-unnamed restaurant should open at the end of 2013. Will you be checking it out when it opens? Marisa Mendez


FOOD: So Sad, Harlem’s Iconic Lenox Lounge Closes For Good

Lenox Lounge, the iconic 63-year-old jazz club in Harlem, has officially closed its doors as of this past Monday. The landlord of the spot had doubled the rent, and current owner Alvin Reed just couldn’t do it. It will be reopening this Spring, however, it will be under a different name and different management…so it’s basically a totally new place. Nobu owner Richie Notar will open the doors to Notar Jazz Club this March, as he wasn’t allowed to use the original name. So sad to see such a piece of history go! Marisa Mendez

Food review sites and apps like Yelp and Foodspotting make eating well superbly easy. Before setting foot outside, about 45% of consumers have already chosen where to eat with the help of an online dining guide. Online reviews are a huge decider of what’s for dinner — 57% of patrons rely on them. Even more interesting is that despite the rise of online food directories such as Urbanspoon or Menupages, 41% of consumers still wine and dine at a particular restaurant after receiving a promotional email. The National Restaurant Association drew up the infographic below showcasing how technology is changing the food industry.
