Kendrick Lamar Named “Rap Genius” Of 2015

Kendrick Lamar just can’t lose this year. The TDE emcee blew fans away with his critically acclaimed album To Pimp A Butterfly, which included the #BlackLivesMatter anthem “Alright”, scooped up 11 Grammy Nominations and even made it to the top of President Obama’s playlist. Now after over 2,500 votes K. Dot was named Genius.com’s #1 Rap Genius. Read more below.


Eminem & Shady Records Partner With Genius

Eminem and his Shady Records imprint have officially partnered with lyric website Genius. “Coming up we would always obsess over the lyrics from our favorite MCs,” Em said in a press release. “Picking everything apart, trying to get into their heads. I still do that today and Genius helps to make it a worldwide conversation. Pretty amazing to me.” As part of the partnership, Eminem will continue to annotate his lyrics on the site (he did 42 in just April alone,) and Genius will now now be the official lyrics engine for his website and all other online properties surrounding Shady Records.

Harlem’s newest lyrical gem, Smoke Dza, made his way over to the Rap Genius headquarters located in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. The emcee sat down with the Rap Genius staff and a few specially invited bloggers to decode lyrics off of his album Dream.Zone.Achieve. The NY native broke down lyrics from songs including “Hearses,” “Zone,” “Fhvt Bvsturd,” “Ghost of Dipset,” “City of Dreams,” and many, many more as he sparked up using his new customized Rap Genius lighter. To join in on the fun, fellow rapper from his RFC crew Al-Doe sat alongside the Kushed God to assist in the decoding process. To end his visit at Rap Genius, Dza explained the story behind his “riiiighhhhht” ad-lib that we all know and love him for.
