Public Enemy & Mobb Deep Headlining Ice-T’s Art Of Rap Festival

Ice-T puts togethers a classic lineup for his annual “Art Of Rap Festival”, with this year’s headliners to serve as Public Enemy & Mobb Deep. Also on tour will be, Naughty by Nature, Grandmaster Melle Mel and Scorpio, EPMD, The Sugarhill Gang and Kurtis Blow. The tour kicks off in Dallas, TX July 16. Hit the jump for the dates.


Public Enemy Pissed Off “Fight the Power” Was Played During the Oscars

Sunday night, Chris Rock hosted the Oscars and used his position as a platform to share and remind folks about the undeniable lack of diversity in Hollywood. At the end of the evening the Academy rounded out Rock’s statements by playing Public Enemy’s, “Fight The Power.” While their decision to use the anthem didn’t seem to make waves at the time, the group is now speaking out and is not too happy. TMZ spoke with Public Enemy’s Professor Griff who slammed the Academy saying, “The show can’t claim the blackness of Public Enemy’s message.” While Chuck D voiced his opinion via Twitter after the show saying, “The point of the song is a call to making change eventually not just applauding the thought.” Hit the jump for more.

After being stranded by their car on the way from one gig to another, one man had the chance of a lifetime to save the day and drive legendary hip-hop group Public Enemy to a gig. Kevin Wells, dished to the Guardian about just how his once in a lifetime opportunity came to be. He said, “It was very, very surreal. We all walked to the car – Flavor Flav, Chuck D and two of their entourage — and they all just piled in. I’m local to Sheffield so I know all the back streets to get there pretty sharpish so I didn’t feel too tense. I knew I could get them there in time.” Hit the jump for more.

After just celebrating what would’ve been Tupac’s 43rd birthday last week, Chuck D has posted a picture on Twitter of a letter that Pac wrote him back in 1995 while he was in jail. In the letter Pac discusses signing to Death Row, his great love and respect for the Public Enemy rapper and what he learned from him while they were on tour. Plus he requests a feature from him on an upcoming song and even asks him if he would want to get involved in both a movie and a program that he was working on. Check out the letter after the jump!
