Pope Francis has earned himself the title, “The People’s Pope” because of his undying fervor to improve the quality of life for the good of humanity. The Pope’s will to do good was exemplified this weekend as he made a pitstop in Cuba on his way to the U.S.; one that has not only aided in the reconciliation of U.S. and Cuban relations, but even has President Castro considering rejoining the Catholic church.

Pope John Paul II Cleared For Sainthood
Pope John Paul II has been cleared for Sainthood by Pope Francis. Techincally a Saint needs to miracles in their lifetime, but Pope Francis has cleared one.The Vatican has yet to clear Pope John Paul II for his second miracle during his intercession but said that Francis has enough power to declare John Paul a Saint without one. Along with John Paul II, John XXIII is also going to be canonized. John XXIII is said to be the one who brought the Catholic Church into the modern world. So far, the canonization is expected by the end of the year but there is no word to exactly when. The Polish media is pushing for the celebration to be in October to mark the 35th anniversary of John Paul’s election. Read about John Paul’s miracle below.

Pope Francis meet with Pope Benedict in a historical moment. Normally, Popes pass away and that’s when the new Pope comes to power so it’s not normal for the past and present Pope to be together. Pope Francis met with Pope Benedict on Saturday for lunch. Pope Francis came with the gift of an icon of Madonna called “Madonna of Humility” for Benedict. The two spoke for about 40-45 minutes along before joining two papal secretaries for lunch. See the historic picture in the gallery.
