LL Cool J and Diddy are the latest celebrities to appear on the PBS program, Finding Your Roots. The show dives into peoples’ lineage to learn more about where they came from, and both stumbled upon new facts about their families they’d never known. Diddy learns that one of his great, great, great grandfathers was arrested for being a runaway slave, while LL connects with multiple family members he never knew he had. During an episode of Finding My Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr., Nas, Angela Bassett as well as Senior Advisor to the President of the United States, Valerie Jarrett take some time out to review their ancestry. During PBS broadcast, the Harvard professor helps the three individuals to trace where they come from and try to pinpoint a name line. It was no surprise that when Nas’ history was being discussed, he begins with the hip hop culture. “Hip Hop was a raw expression of American youth, and the rhythm of it was like a combination of all musics, all musics combined into one,” Nas begins. “It was the music of my soul.
