Russell Westbrook is in straight beast mode right now.  The explosive guard notched his fourth straight triple-double becoming the first player to do so since Michael Jordan in 1989 and he has six overall for the season.  During the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 123-118 overtime win over the Philadelphia 76ers, Westbrook put up 49 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.  He also had the highlight of the night with this crazy dunk on the Sixers.

Today the Oklahoma City Thunder signed Nick Collison to a two-year, $8 million contract extension.  Many people were confused by the amount of the extension considering Collison is declining and at 34-years old he’s averaging 3.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 16.0 minutes per game this season.  The thing is Collison has been with the team since it moved from Seattle and is very important to the franchise so Thunder star Kevin Durant took exception to an NBA reporter who criticized the move.

In 2016 Kevin Durant will become a free agent, luckily for him that’s the same year the NBA’s new TV deal will kick in which will significantly raise the salary cap.  There are already several teams in the hunt for Durant including the Washington Wizards and the New York Knicks but the Oklahoma City Thunder want desperately to keep their star.  OKC has one up on the other teams, they can offer Durant the longest and richest contract, in fact the contract could be record breaking.
