Names like Stephen Curry, James Harden, LeBron James and Anthony Davis have all been mentioned among past and future MVP debates. There’s someone else however who believes the award is theirs for the taking, Sacramento Kings star DeMarcus Cousins.
While LeBron James got his customary consideration and Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook joined the talks, the NBA MVP race was really between two players, Stephen Curry and James Harden with the former taking home the trophy. Though we’re gearing up to start a new season, Harden is still pissed about losing last season.
The Stephen Curry vs. James Harden MVP debate should be over with by now but it was reignited due to the airing of the NBA Player Awards where the players themselves chose the winners. The awards aired Tuesday night on BET and Harden was awarded the MVP of the season award despite Curry winning the actual award, voted on by the press. Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey took to his Twitter account to support his player.
Paul George’s career was skyrocketing, he was being mentioned among the likes of LeBron James and Kevin Durant and then during an exhibition game with Team USA, he suffered a gruesome injury as his leg snapped after trying to chase down a block. He missed majority of last season and the Indiana Pacers missed the playoffs. This upcoming season, he will be totally healthy and ready to go, and he already has a lofty goal in mind.
Some people (including the players) have a problem with the media choosing the winners of major awards such as MVP. The players feel some of them don’t have the best relationship with the media, and that they play against each other each night so they would have a better idea of which player is better. That makes sense, so the NBA players association announced on Tuesday that they were going to host a NBAPA Players Choice Awards at Las Vegas Summer League this year. The awards would include MVP and be voted on by players. While players like Kevin Durant and LeBron James are all for it, John Wall isn’t and explained the problem with players voting amongst themselves.
