Last week, DJ Quik hopped on Twitter to call out YG, revealing plans to sue him over un-credited engineering on his 2013 hit, “My Hitta.” It was rather odd timing, as the song has been out for nearly three years, but he’s released a rather lengthy statement to Billboard about the matter…though he still sounds a little weird for waiting this long. Basically, Quik was called in to help mix the record after the ProTools illegally popped up on YouTube, and made it much more cleaned up and easier for other people to mix or remix it. In the end, YG didn’t like Quik’s final mix so they had another person mix it after, but Quik’s initial work on it made that able to be done. From what I understand (it was a LONG read, LOL), Quik was made for his services – though not his usual fee – but he was never credited on the song, and that’s what the beef was. Is it worth calling out YG though, when he doesn’t design the album credits or really make those calls? That’s the A&R.. Check out the statement below and let us know if you think Quik was justified!
