(Photos) An Aaliyah Biopic May Be Coming To VH1…Starring Who?

It’s been years in the making, but finally, it looks like this Aaliyah biopic will be coming into fruition. A few months back, the late singer’s uncle/former manager, Barry Hankerson, took to Twitter with a movie poster, revealing that a movie about Aaliyah’s life would be coming to VH1 on August 25, 2014…the 13-year anniversary of her untimely death. (Crazy that it’s been so long, huh?) No more details were revealed, but since then, little details have trickled in…including a few contenders for the coveted starring role. When the movie was first talked about years ago, Keshia Chante (who now is the host of 106 & Park, but then was just a singer on the comeup) was said to have nabbed the starring role, and it looks like there still may be something there. Taking to her Instagram just a few days ago, Keshia posted a photo of Aaliyah with the caption, “The Audition.” Apparently actress Tristin Mays was in the running as well, but in the end, she didn’t make the cut. Check out what she had to say below, as well as a few other rumored contenders for the role.

Michael B. Jordan Discusses Being An Ambassador For Sprite Films (+ How You Can Get Involved!)

We’ve all had our eyes on actor Michael B. Jordan for some time now, heightened tremendously in 2013 when he starred as Oscar Grant in the extremely powerful and critically acclaimed film, Fruitvale Station. The star of the upcoming Fantastic Four movie (coming June 2015) has been pretty busy this year, filming for F4, acting alongside Zac Efron and Miles Teller in one 2014’s funniest comedies, That Awkward Moment, and partnering with Sprite as their 2014 Sprite Films student filmmaker mentor and program ambassador. In his role, Mike has helped to mentor a handful of undergrad and graduate aspiring filmmakers, who’ve collectively produced 6 50-second films for the Sprite Films program – one of which will ultimately win and go on to run in select theaters nationwide in August (with MBJ starring in the trailer) – and YOU can help choose who wins! View the films and vote for your favorite video now here. Voting ends TODAY so get to it! IFWT recently chopped it up with Michael, and got the inside scoop on his partnership with the Sprite Films challenge, as well some pearls of wisdom Michael shared with the contestants…and that he himself has received from the likes of Oprah, Forrest Whitaker and more! Cool! ‘SLC Punk!’ Sequel To Begin Shooting This Summer With Original Cast…And A Popular Rapper!

I know my fellow 80s and 90s babies are going to love this one – the 1998 cult classic “SLC Punk!” is officially getting the sequel treatment! “SLC Punk 2: Punk’s Dead” will begin shooting next month in Salt Lake City, Utah, and unlike a lot of remakes that often fail because none of the original cast sign back on – the gang’s all here! Original writer-director James Merendino is on board, as well as original cast members Devon Sawa, Michael Goorjian, Adam Pascal and James Duval, who will return to reprise their roles of Sean, Heroin Bob, Eddie and John the Mod, respectively. New to the mix this go-round is Ben Schnetzer who will play Heroin Bob’s son Ross, Hannah Marks and Sarah Clarke as the new female leads…and Machine Gun Kelly as a character by the name of Crash! MGK has been heavy into acting as of late, securing a role in the forthcoming film Blackbird, as well as an as-of-yet unknown film that he tweeted about earlier today. Go Kels!
