NBA: Lakers Plan to Transition Metta World Peace Into an Assistant Coach

Back in the day Ron Artest as a coach would sound ludicrous, but he’s no longer that person.  He now goes by Metta World Peace, that latter of which he hopes to share as well as plenty of other tips to young players.  MWP made the Lakers’ roster because talented second-year man (basically a rookie after his injury) Julius Randle bonded with him as a mentor. World Peace is a former All-Star and Defensive Player of the Year who has tips he can pass along to young players, and he may get through to them in a way old coaches do not.

Lamar Odom is steadily improving and there’s been an outpour of love and support.  While Metta World Peace is optimistic about his longtime friend, he told the Los Angeles News Group that he has become upset regarding something else about Odom, who grew up with the former Ron Artest in the New York City area.

NBA: He’s Back! Metta World Peace Agrees To One Year Deal With The Lakers

I still struggle with calling him anything but Ron Artest but Metta World Peace aka “The Panda’s Friend” is back in the NBA and wearing the purple & gold of the Los Angeles Lakers. Obviously he is far removed from the player he was at his peak but with the Lakers being terrible he may still be able to help out, especially in the locker room.

Metta World Peace last played with the New York Knicks in the NBA.  After battling injury and issues with former Knicks coach Mike Woodson, MWP signed a lucrative deal with Sichuan of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).  He’s ready to come back however and says he’s finally 100%.

NBA: Metta World Peace Explains Locker Room Fight With J.R Smith That Kept the Knicks From Re-signing Him

Many thought it was Metta World Peace’s recurring knee injury that kept the Knicks from re-signing him but he believes there was another reason.  Even when he was healthy, then Knicks coach Mike Woodson kept him on the sidelines and wouldn’t let him play.  It was never clear what the issue was but now MWP is clearing the air.
