Maurice Jones-Drew announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday by posting a message on Twitter saying that “all good things come to an end.” In his note on the matter, Jones-Drew called his 9-year playing career an “amazing” time and said he is looking forward to the next chapter of his life. Jones-Drew was a powerhouse type running back just a few seasons ago, but injuries, contract disputes and a lackluster season with the Oakland Raiders last year slowed down his momentum. He never looked right in the black & silver of the Raiders and he likely wasn’t going to be much of a factor moving forward anyway.
Most NFL players do touchdown celebrations like the Nae Nae or Shmoney Dance but Maurice Jones-Drew decided to make a statement. “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” is the recurring theme for protesters in Ferguson, MO who are fighting for justice for Michael Brown, the unarmed teen who was killed by police officer Darren Wilson.
Earlier this week Gametime Girl covered the story about MJD being charged by police in Florida for allegedly punching a security guard at a bar, which you can read HERE. Stories went back and forth as to if Jones was actually ever charged with a crime. Police said he was cooperating and friends of MJD said he had nothing to do with the fight. But now a lawyer for the security guard he may or may of not punched is claiming he has footage of the attack and MJD is in fact the culprit. Check the video after the jump to see what the lawyer is saying.
These arrests just don’t surprise me anyone. It seems like athletes are just getting into all kinds of trouble. SMH. This time it’s Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew. Find out what happened after the jump…
Maurice Jones-Drew’s holdout didn’t work last time when he was fresh off a league rushing title. He knows a deal won’t materialize on the heels of an injury-shortened 2012. Although he says he won’t holdout this year, he is hopeful for a new contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Read more after the jump. Shay Marie
