Nicki Minaj has made history of sorts as the $12 million woman. The Young Money raptress became the first rapper to judge American Idol when she signed on last week, and that’s nothing to turn your nose up at! Call her a sell-out all you want, but she’s effortlessly made the transition into mainstream and is laughing all the way to the bank! Mariah Carey Reportedly Calls A Truce With Nicki Minaj On American Idol Set
Even though we’d love to see the diva battle between new American Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey that the rumor mill says they’re having, apparently we won’t get much aside from the first episode. Reportedly the pair were going at it while taping, with Mariah constantly interrupting Nicki while she was critiquing the Idol wannabes. Though this originally stemmed from the fact Mariah [allegedly] wanted to be the only super-famous female judge, this was [allegedly] fueled by Nicki being 45 minutes late to start that day. Since the very first talks of Nicki Minaj joining American Idol, rumors have been flying that Mariah Carey wasn’t with it at all. There were even reports that during yesterday’s very first day of taping, Nicki and Mariah had some obvious catty tension, but Mimi shot down all the rumors during an AI press conference. Though you can’t know who to believe just yet, I’m inclined to go with Mariah, only because as I keep saying…if Mariah’s ego wasn’t too big to get an album-less Nicki Minaj on her single in 2009, there’s no reason there should be issues now. “How are we gonna feud in two days? Nicki Minaj & Mariah Carey Get Catty During First American Idol Taping
Two divas on one show can really make for some tension, but I’m still rather surprised that there’s any between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. Mariah recruited Nicki for a collab back in 2009 before Nicki even had an album out, so it’s odd that just a few years later, there are so many issues. Earlier this summer, TMZ was reporting that Mimi was NOT feeling the idea of sharing the limelight with Minaj, going so far as to hang up on American Idol reps when they told her Nick was in the running for a judge as well. Yesterday, it was announced that Nicki and country singer Keith Urban had both officially signed on the show, and the first taping in NY went down shortly after.
