The forthcoming Aaliyah biopic has been shrouded in controversy since its inception, as the late singer’s family is not in support of the film, and have spoke out numerous times on their stance. For this reason, plus the backlash of many protective fans, Disney star Zendaya Coleman decided to drop out of the lead role early on. Lifetime still pushed on, however, and will finally be debuting Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B on Saturday, November 15. The film’s new star, newcomer Alexandra Shipp, recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier, and spoke on the controversial role. Check out what she said below.
Another controversial biopic is ready to release. Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B is scheduled to premiere on Lifetime Network, November 15 8/7c. Playing the, “One in a Million” songstress will be Alexandra Shipp, an actress who seriously serves an uncanny resemblance to Aaliyah.
Lifetime is under fire again for their new movie, The Brittany Murphy Story, which premieres tonight at 8pm. The biopic has been receiving plenty of negative attention, with the late actress’ father, Angelo Bertolotti, publicly slamming the flick for not depicting the truth surrounding her death. Bertolotti has been lashing out against Lifetime for their low budget flick and not consulting with the family or doing research on Murphy’s life. He is livid the network picked Amanda Fuller to play his daughter and is adamant that Brittany’s death was a result of poisoning. Lifetime just can’t seem to get it right! RIP Brittany Murphy. Check out the two actors in the gallery. Do you think that the two have any resemblance to Timbaland & Missy Elliot? Or does it not matter?
