The head of the Chicago Police Department are looking to fire the five police officers who were involved in Laquan McDonald’s death.
7 officers in Chicago involved in the 2014 fatal shooting of teenager Laquan McDonald have been recommended to be fired by the city’s Office of the Inspector General. They actually recommended 8, but Chicago PD disagreed with one. As previously reported, dashcam video of the shooting contradicted nearly everything police said happened.
While every American citizen has the right to due process, this is a case that is open and shut. Jason Van Dyke, the Chicago police officer who shot Black teenager, Laquan McDonald 16 times, not only “failed to sync the MICS,” so that during certain times audio could not be used, but he is also being accused of intentionally destroying his patrol car dash-cam on numerous occasions. According to a report obtained by DNAinfo Chicago, he and other officers in the area totaled 1,800 of the maintenance logs that showed the tampering of dash-cams.
After video of a patrolman’s fatal shooting footage of Laquan McDonald was released he U.S. Department of Justice is reportedly opening an investigation into the Chicago Police Department over the shooting of Laquan McDonald. There have been several accusations of a cover up. According to the Chicago Tribune a law enforcement official familiar with the coming investigation said the inquiry likely will be announced “in the next week” and is expected to focus on officers use of deadly force including the system of oversight of police shootings as well as training and community engagement.
