(Video) NBA: Kobe Bryant Becomes 3rd Player to Reach 33,000 Points & Youngest Overall

Kobe Bryant is in his 20th and final season in the NBA and he’s still setting milestones.  Bryant finished with 28 points in the Lakers 118-115 loss to the Kings but it was a special night for the Black Mamba as he hit a major mark.  Bryant became the third and youngest player to reach 33,000 points joining Karl Malone and fellow Laker great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

It’s been said and fairly obvious that the Lakers won’t make any major moves or development until Kobe Bryant is gone.  Aside from the rumors that free agents don’t want to play with him, the team is focused on the last season of their franchise superstar.  Coach Byron Scott has been criticized for benching young players like DeAngelo Russell, Julius Randle and others and letting Kobe hijack the offense despite numerous missed shots; aside from tanking, they’re also making sure the focus is on Kobe’s farewell.

Kobe Bryant will retire at the end of this season as one of the greatest players in the history of the Los Angeles Lakers franchise.  It is inevitable that they will eventually retire a number(s) in his honor.  The large debate has been whether the Lakers will retire ‘8’ or ’24’; Kobe has had amazing almost separate careers wearing both numbers so the Lakers might just retire both.

Nick Young aka “Swaggy P” always has an interesting quote to give us.  On Monday the Los Angeles Lakers played the Charlotte Hornets.  It was also Kobe Bryant’s last game in Charlotte as he’s preparing to retire at the end of this season.  As a special tribute to Bryant, Hornets owner Michael Jordan put together a message for Kobe that aired on the jumbotron prior to the player intros.  Young had an interesting comparison for the event.
