The New York Giants expect Eli Manning to be fully healed from his ankle surgery before training camp gets underway. Still, he will miss most, or even all, of their spring workouts while recovering. That means the Giants need to find some veteran help at quarterback to help bridge the gap while Manning gets right.
Well that didn’t take long. QB Josh Freeman was released by the Bucs last week and he’s already found a new home — the Minnesota Vikings. Details after the jump…
The Tampa Bay Bucs gave their old starting quarterback his wish. They released Josh Freeman after not being able to find any team who was willing to trade for him. He was selected #17 in the 2009 NFL draft by the Bucs, and played very well in his first two seasons there. However since 2010, when he went 10-6 as a starter, he has gone 11-23 and only 2 other quarterbacks have a lower winning percentage. In 60 career games, Freeman has thrown for 13,534 yards, 80 touchdowns and 66 interceptions. He is the franchise’s leader in career TD passes. His relationship with head coach Greg Schiano played a big role in him losing his starting job, and eventually to being released.. Once he clears waivers, he would be eligible to sign with any team. Looking around the NFL, there are definitely numerous teams who could use help at the QB position and Freeman would be an upgrade for some of those teams. Hit the jump for more.
The situation with the Tampa Bay Bucs and Josh Freeman has gotten out of hand and he’s reportedly ready to go. Read more after the jump.
This should be a very interesting weekend in Tampa. Bucs QB Josh Freeman, who lost his job as the starter this week to rookie Mike Glennon, had an interview with Josina Anderson of ESPN. During the interview he uses the opportunity to publicly say he wants to be traded and thinks it is best that he is not there anymore. I guess he thinks by saying it to the media it gives him some leverage in any possible trade discussions with the team. The problem could wind up being his own though, because at the end of the day, the Bucs do not have to do anything with Freeman. They can let him sit on the sidelines all season and waste away. The relationship between himself, head coach Greg Schiano and the team is obviously destroyed. Needless to say, I am sure the locker room is very awkward as they prepare for their game Sunday.
