To celebrate Black History Month, InFlexWeTrust will be honoring influential members of Black history daily throughout the month. Today, we are honoring Josephine Baker. Baker was a French actress, dancer, and singer. She became a French citizen in 1937 and became known as a political icon and international musician. Baker became known for her nicknames, “Bronze Venus”, the “Black Pearl”, and the “Créole Goddess”. She had countless contributions to the Civil Rights Movement as well as World War II when it came to fighting the French Resistance. Baker was the first African American female to star in a major motion picture, Zouzou in 1934. Read more about her below.
Josephine Baker was an actress, singer, and dancer along with a civil rights activist. She became one of the most well-known jazz acts in the world, especially France and Europe. Baker refused to play in any nightclub that was not integrated. During World War II she worked with the Red Cross, entertained troops in Africa and the Middle East, and gathered information for the French Renaissance. Josephine Baker was also the first African American to star in a major motion picture, become a world-famous entertainer, and integrate an American concert hall. Read more about her below.
