Earlier today, the news officially broke that J. Cole hit that number ONE spot on the Billboard 200 this week, with his debut album “Cole World: The Sideline Story” moving over 215,000 units in its first week out. Those numbers are huge within themselves, but the fact that he had NO major airplay or videos on TV makes it even crazier!! J. Cole Celebrates Album Release With Jay-Z and Beyonce
Yesterday was a huge day for J. Cole, as the rapper finally got to see his album hit stores…something he’d been waiting on since signing to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation imprint 2 years ago. It was a long day of interviews (with our very own Angie Martinez), autograph signings, live streaming and more…and he capped it off with a private album release party at a small venue in NYC. Caasi and I stopped in to congratulate Cole and have a few drinks. We walked over and spoke to him for a bit and let me tell you….that kid was SO happy. Such a monumental moment for him! It’s truly dope to see an artist get the shine he deserves!! The highlight of the night, however, came in the form of none other than Jay and Beyonce. The Roc boss stopped in to show some love to his protege with pregnant wifey in tow, but the pair didn’t stay for too long. I think the fact they came at all speaks volumes in itself, though. “Nice to see J. Cole and Jay talking,” Chuck Creekmur, CEO of AllHipHop.com tweeted from the VIP. “I suspect those first week #s are going to be sweet.” Perhaps now they can put those Jay x J beef rumors to bed!
