When it came to presenting the Icon Award to Bronx born Jennifer Lopez AKA ‘Jenny from The Block’, Iggy Azalea and Ricky Martin introduced the iconic artist singing Jlo’s praises and boasting the accomplishment’s of the first woman to be awarded the iconic award by Billboard. Jlo is an international superstar, as well as triple threat, who has most certainly earned the honor after selling over 75 million records worldwide! As she approaches the release of her 10th studio album A.K.A., it has been revealed that Jennifer Lopez will receive the Icon Award at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards! J. Lo will join the ranks of previous recipients Stevie Wonder, Prince and Neil Diamond…making her the first woman to be awarded by Billboard for their “lifetime achievement and remarkable and enduring contribution to popular music.” The awards go down May 18th in Las Vegas, and J. Lo will also perform the official FIFA World Cup anthem “We Are One (Ole Ola)” with Pitbull, as well as her new single, “First Love.”
During the 2013 American Music Awards that took place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, the universal pop-princess Rihanna was presented with the Icon Award by her mother, Monica Fenty during the show. She is also nominated for 4 awards and will be performing as well. “The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level,” said AMA producer Larry Klein. “Rihanna’s iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and bestselling artists of all time.” The 2013 AMAs air live from L.A. at 8pm on Sunday, November 24th on ABC.
