Dr. Dre is a legend and rightfully so, but his past is certainly not squeaky clean. The mogul has long been plagued with accusations of domestic assault on more than a few women, including former Death Row singer (and ex-wife) Michel’e, as well as television personality Dee Barnes. Dre has, for the most part, shied away from commenting on the allegations throughout his career, though he and Eminem seemingly made light of one such situation on the 1999 hit, “Guilty Conscious.”
You gonna take advice from somebody who slapped Dee Barnes? (What you say?) What’s wrong? Didn’t think I’d remember? (I’ma kill you motherf*cker!) Uhh-ahh, temper, temper!
Every time I think of N.W.A., what goes through my head is ‘Straight outta Compton/a crazy motherf**ker named Ice Cube …” The opening to that track was a serious one, and Ice Cube had the mean mug face down-packed. Oddly enough, Cube’s son [twin], O’Shea Jackson Jr., has the same mean mug that landed him his role in the N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton. The father/son duo stopped by Conan to talk the upcoming biopic, and the late night host challenged the two into a scowling contest. Because it was done perfectly, I wouldn’t be able to tell you who won, however, they did get their mugs on a Christmas card. Check it out after the jump.
While doing promotion for his upcoming and highly anticipated film,Straight Outta Compton, rapper Ice Cube and fellow cast members sat down for a livestream Q&A at the YouTube Space hosted by MC Lyte. The conversation naturally turned the most recent deadly incidents involving police brutality and the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movements. Ice Cube shared the advice he gives to his own children and recommends to all children about encounters with police, while DJ Yella explains the song F- the Police is still extremely relevant today. When news broke that a NWA biopic film was in the works, there was no better choice than to cast Ice Cube’s son, O’shea Jackson Jr., to play the younger version of his father in the highly-anticipated movie. Unfortunately he was not able to grow his own jheri curls in time for filming, so Universal had to purchase a wig for him since the curls are a MUST for playing a young Cube.
Ice Cube, as well as F. Gary Gray and the rest of the cast, has been promoting the hell out of his latest feature film Straight Outta Compton. Since the N.W.A. biopic has had fans revisiting their debut album, Cube felt obliged to clear up some misconceptions some may have about the album, especially the title track.
