Congratulations!: Malia Obama Graduates High School And Will Be Off To College In 2017

Barack and Michelle Obama’s daughter, Malia Obama, graduated from high school Friday. We have watched the Obama girls grow up right before our very eyes and Barack was on Jimmy Fallon recently where he dished out how proud of his daughter he was. He also mentioned that Malia is eager to leave the White House.


(Photos) Nas Receives The 2015 Harvard University W.E.B. DuBois Medal

As we previously reported, the Illmatic one, Nas, was set to be honored by the esteemed Harvard University as the latest recipient of the W.E.B. DuBois Medal, and the ceremony went down last night. The accolade is the highest honor in the field of African and African-American Studies at the university, and is awarded to those who have made “contributions to African-American culture and the life of the mind.” Nas is the first ever in the hip-hop world to receive the honor, while past recipients include Muhammad Ali, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Charlayne Hunter-Gault (the first black woman to enroll in the University of Georgia) and more. “Historic night for the rap game. At the Hutchins Center Honors for the W. E. B. Du Bois Medal ceremony,” Nas said on Instagram. “This is a first for the Rap Game to receive this award but, definitely not the last. Thank you. #HarvardHistory.” With music with a message, a scholarship fund (the Nasir Jones Fellowship) and a continued impact on the world, I think Escobar was more than deserving. Congrats! Nas To Be Honored With The Harvard University 2015 W.E.B. Du Bois Medal

UPDATE: Nas, along with many other recipients, received their their metals. Check the gallery at the top. ORIGINAL: Nasir “Nas” Jones is more than just a dope lyricist. Throughout his musical career, the 42-year-old artist has also been an advocate for African Americans and the civil rights movement; an advocacy that is being recognized by Harvard University. Today, Sept. 30th, the Ivy League university will honor Nas with the 2015 W.E.B. Du Bois Medal, an honor “awarded to individuals in the U.S. and across the globe in recognition of their contributions to African American culture and the life of the mind,” according to the W.E.B. Breaking News: Harvard University Evacuated Due To Unconfirmed Reports Of Bomb

UPDATE: 12/16/2013 – 1:40pm All things seem to be okay. Two (Thayer and Emerson Hall) of the four buildings evacuated are clear for students to return. Students were still on campus to finish final exams, but those tests has been postponed until this afternoon. 12/16/2013 – 10:06am It’s a bomb scare at the prestigious law school. Harvard University has evacuated at least four buildings this morning, due to unconfirmed reports of bombs. Police are on the campus, and an investigation is underway. Nas Talks About Hip Hop Fellowship & Why He’s Fighting For The Genre!

Back in July, we got word that Hip-Hop Archive and the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute at Harvard University was honoring Nasir Jones, by building a fellowship in his name. The emcee gives us reason to why he’s down for the cause, one that he would not have been down for in his twenties. “In the beginning, I was a fighter. I’m always going to be a fighter, but I fight differently, for different reasons, today,” said Nas. “Hip Hop is important like computer science. The world is changing. If you want to understand the youth, listen to the music. This is what’s happening right underneath your nose,” he continued. Kurtis Blow, Rakim and many other legends’ words influenced his connection between hip-hop and education. He’s more for a fellowship such as this one nowadays due to these acts. CONGRATULATIONS! Nas Honored As The ‘Nasir Jones Hip-Hop Fellowship’!

Nas has yet to win certain music awards, however that has yet to deter him, and he’s still getting GREAT recognition! The almost 20-year MC is being honored by the Hip-Hop Archive and the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute at Harvard University to create a fellowship. Artists as well as scholars with mind-blowing abilities to create and showcase there talent within the arts, in connection with hip-hop will have the opportunity to get in on this. These artists and scholars will show that, “education is power,” via manuscript projects, performance pieces, album work, curriculum planning, primary archival research, and exhibition preparation. Marcyliena Morgan, Professor of African and African American Studies at Harvard University and founder and director of the Hip-Hop Archive and Research Institute states committing, “to build and support intellectually challenging and innovative scholarships that reflects the rigor and achievement of hip-hop performance.” Morgan adds, “With the introduction of the Nasir Jones Hip-Hop Fellowship, we will continue to be the leading resource for those interested in knowing, developing, building, maintaining, and representing hip-Hop.” This is fantastic!
