NBA free agency kicked off yesterday and it’s already been pretty crazy. Greg Monroe was a coveted free agent by the Knicks but after meeting with them and the Lakers, he ultimately decided to roll with the Milwaukee Bucks! Yup times are changing.

The Knicks can take ANY upgrades they can get at this point and it appears one seems to be on the way already, although it can not publicly be discussed. Pistons Greg Monroe will be a free agent this summer and knows he will be in demand. Phil Jackson and the Knicks however seem to be the front runner to land his services by a mile compared to other teams that will want him. While Monroe is not an elite forward at this point, he is young enough to still achieve greater heights in this game and let’s be honest, he would be a dramatic improvement over some of the front court players the team had this year.
Charley Rosen, Phil Jackson’s confidant and his former longtime Albany Patroons assistant coach, believes center has to be the Knicks’ No. 1 priority in the offseason. Rosen, a triangle offense savant, believes Kentucky’s Karl-Anthony Towns, who has growing momentum as the No. 1 overall pick, isn’t the answer as the low-post threat needed in the triangle, but free-agent-to-be center Greg Monroe of Detroit would be a great Jackson pickup.
The Los Angeles Lakers aren’t content with a throw away season, apparently they’re still working the phones trying to make a trade happen. They failed to land Rajon Rondo but are still in the market for a point guard.
Earlier this year, the Detroit Pistons star was arrested for a DUI, for which he is now facing a two game suspension from the league (which was just announced). It appears that the punishment from the league isn’t the worst part of the whole ordeal. Hit the jump for details.
The Indiana Pacers seem to be in a bit of a free fall. They lost Lance Stephenson to free agency and then lost Paul George when he suffered an unfortunate leg injury, and now they’re reportedly shopping embattled big man Roy Hibbert.
