Auto Talk: Next Mazda6 to go four-cylinder only

Beneath the gorgeous and impossibly long looking hood of the Mazda Takeri Concept lies plenty of real estate. By our estimation there’s room for any number of powerplants, from a high-revving rotary to a twin-turbo V6. However, when Mazda launches the new 2014 Mazda6, which will ape the looks of the Takeri show car, it will only contain a measly little four-cylinder, according to Autoweek. Funk Flex

Auto Talk: Mercedes C63 AMG Black Series launched as DTM safety car

The latest hotted-up safety car for DTM is the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series. If we’d been in a racing accident, we’re not sure we’d trust the men who stepped out of a car that’s half steroids, half Satan, but after 12 years of providing the safety cars (along with Audi) for the German touring car series, we’ll assume Mercedes-Benz knows what it’s doing. Auto Talk: Mercedes to bring Magic Sky Control to side windows?

Auto Blog had the chance to sample Mercedes-Benz’s so-called Magic Sky Control technology in both the SL and SLK roadsters, and it’s a pretty clever party trick. The technology can turn the overhead roof panel in either of the two-seaters from transparent to opaque by energizing the light-blocking crystals sandwiched in the glass. By electrifying the crystals, they reorder themselves, varying the amount of light that’s let through the glass roof panel. Funk Flex

Auto Talk: Rolls-Royce makes room for updated Phantom Extended Wheelbase in Beijing

Considering how short some product lifecycles have become, it boggles the mind to think that Rolls-Royce has had the Phantom on the market for nearly ten years now. And with the next-generation model not expected to arrive for another few years, the model that relaunched the brand under BMW ownership stands to reach its Bar Mitzvah before it’s replaced. But in the meantime, Goodwood is keeping the Phantom fresh with the Series II update. Funk Flex

Auto Talk: Mercedes-Benz rolls in to Beijing in tricked-out Viano Vision Diamond

Limousines? That’s so last millennium. These days the pampered and rich in the know get chauffeured around in the back of pimped-out vans. Sure, they may look utilitarian on the outside, but inside, they’re as luxe as a private jet. Mercedes-Benz has been at the forefront of the scene with its much-modified Sprinter vans, but that’s not the only big box in its portfolio. And to drive that point home, the German automaker has just rolled in to Beijing with this tricked-out Viano. Funk Flex
