Auto Talk: 2014 Maserati Quattroporte revealed in patent drawings

Curious about what the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte will look like? Recent spy shots of the big Maserati sedan haven’t been much help, but now we have this: Three alleged patent drawings found by AutoWeek.nl. Better fire up your imagination, however, as like all European Patent Office images, these sketches have the unique ability to suck the beauty out of even Italian cars. Truth be told, if AutoWeek.nl had told us this was a new Buick, we might have believed them. Funk Flex

(Video) Auto Talk: McLaren opens up a bit about new MP4-12C Spyder

McLaren has given the world a better look at its MP4-12C Spider with a new video and a brace of photographs. The clip shows off some of the convertible’s innards before dropping the retractable hardtop in real time. It takes just 17 seconds for the two-piece top to stow itself behind the seats with the car rolling contentedly down the track. As you might expect, it doesn’t take long for the test driver to lay into the 616-horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine, frolicking sideways and lighting the rear tires on fire. Funk Flex

Telling Autocar that the production possibilities don’t make financial sense anymore, he is instead repurposing the hardcore brand into “a new venture building portable wind turbines.” Funk Flex

Auto Talk: Updated 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee spotted wearing new grille

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is facing mild updates and a short 2013 model year because Jeep wants to get the thoroughly breathed-on 2014 model into buyers’ driveways.  Spy photographers caught a parade of the 2014 models with swirly wrapping covering a tweaked front end sporting narrower upper and lower grilles, a new fog light treatment and perhaps a bit more curvature overall. The interior was masked off, but a larger touchscreen is expected to grace the center console. Funk Flex
