Do you remember the BMW C1? The funky scooter from the German automaker has become something of a two-wheeled cult classic. The scooter made either 15 or 18 horsepower, depending on which model you got. But the most notable thing about the C1 was its futuristic windshield/roof combination and its emphasis on safety – with its integrated seatbelt, it was said to be so safe as to not require a helmet. Auto Talk: BMW replacing ‘is’ with M Performance models
Since the end of the Detroit Auto Show this year we’ve been getting more details on the coming line of M Performance vehicles from BMW. Taking their spots between the standard line and the true M vehicles, examples like the 2012 BMW X6 M50d and M550d xDrive (neither of which will come here) get tweaks developed by the M division under the hood, in the cabin and around the exterior, mated to traditional items like torque converter automatic transmissions instead of dual-clutch gearboxes. Auto Talk: Porsche reveals all-wheel-drive 911 Carrera 4 lineup
Now that the rear-wheel drive Porsche 911 has clapped its thunder, it’s time for the 991-generation all-wheel drive Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S to roll forth in coupe and cabriolet forms. The meat of the transformation is the Porsche Traction Management system, and it’s as much as 143 pounds lighter than the previous 997 C4S, despite being about 1.7 inches wider in back with rear tires that are a third of an inch broader. Detail changes include the cross-light connecting the taillamps moving up a bit and going what appears to be all LED illumination. Funk Flex
Auto Talk: Chevy recalls over 44,000 Sonic models over windshield washer issue
The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic has been found to suffer from a windshield wiper washer issue: 44,668 examples of the subcompact could have wiper washer hoses that separate from the fluid reservoir. If that happens, drivers won’t be able use the washer system to clean the windshield. Funk Flex
(Video) Auto Talk: Watch this Mercedes-Benz DTM pit crew’s dramatic air line accident
During a DTM practice session in Zandvoort, Holland last weekend there was an accident in the pit lane that left four men injured. Ralf Schumacher had finished pitting his Mercedes-Benz racer and the pit crew in front of his had wheeled out and untied their air line, and a man in the adjacent crew was holding the air line on his shoulder.
