In 2004, Ty Dolla $ign’s younger brother Gabreal ‘TC’ Griffin was locked up for a murder he and his family say he didn’t commit, and was sentenced to 67 years to life. Since then, Ty has made it his mission to help his brother, both financially with a better legal counsel, as well as bringing awareness to the mass incarceration of wrongly convicted people. After naming his debut album after TC and even featuring phone calls with him and a song he’d recorded on a phone in prison, Ty has teamed up with VICE to premiere a mini documentary about the Free TC movement. Ty Dolla $ign Releases Deluxe Version Of Debut Album + Preps Mixtape & Documentary
This past Friday, March 25, Ty Dolla $ign re-released his debut album, Free TC, as a deluxe version with four new songs. He is also preparing a documentary to accompany the release as well, which details the story of the album’s namesake (his younger brother, TC,) and brings awareness to the wrongful mass incarceration around the country. “I wanted to put out the visual documentary actually when I first put out the album,” Ty told HipHopDX at a screening of the film on Wednesday, “but time didn’t work out to do it that way. Everything happens for a reason. Everything happens when it’s supposed to. Now we have new songs and a new visual to go with the deluxe version of Free TC, so everyone should to out and get it even more important than the first time.”

Future Announces The Purple Reign Tour With Ty Dolla $ign
Oh it’s f*cking lit! Future has announced a new tour in support of his DS2 album, and he’s bringing along “Blasé” collaborator Ty Dolla $ign for the ride. The 22-city trek will kick off in February, and hit major markets like NYC, LA, ATL and more ,before wrapping in San Jose in March. Check out the full list of dates in the gallery.
