Forbes has released their annual ’30 Under 30′ list and its accompanying cover, and it features some of our favorites in music, entertainment, sports, media and more! Not only did A$AP Rocky make the list, but he landed the cover as well, representing as the only member of the hip-hop community on there! Kudos! Some other familiar names (for our readers) featured on the list include Kehlani, Fetty Wap, ScHoolboy Q, Rae Sremmurd, The Weeknd, Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Jason Mitchell (Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy-E, respectively), Bryshere Gray (Hakeem Lyon on Empire), Pete Davidson (SNL), Steph Curry, Boi-1da, Metro Boomin, Kendrick Lamar’s manager Dave Free, TDE engineer MixedByAli, TheShadeRoom’s founder Angelica Nwandu and more.
When we think of females in the music industry that could possibly be in competition for the highest paid spots, we think of people like Beyonce and Nicki Minaj. However, someone else is in the #1 spot and you will never guess who!
Quiet as kept, Big Sean is really doing his thing out here! He may not receive AS much recognition as some of his peers, but he’s always consistently come with a hit song, and it’s resonating in sales for sure. Forbes reports today that in just October alone, the G.O.O.D. Music rapper received not one, but two gold plaques – one for the sales of his meaningful ballad “One Man Can Change The World,” the other for his Mike Will Made It-produced “Paradise.” Prior to that, the Drake-featured smash “Blessings” earned RIAA platinum status this summer, as did his 2012 throwaway single, “Guap.” (Guess the latter was a slow burner.) Oh, and as for his biggest hit to date, “IDFWU”? It went triple platinum in September – a year to the day of its original release.
Ghostwriting is nothing new when it comes to the rap game. However, ever since Meek Mill called out Drake for allegedly getting his rhymes written for him, the issue sparked the attention of many who are not necessarily “in-the-loop” of the ghostwriting hustle. Successful rappers Smoke Dza and Skyzoo sat down with Forbes writer Natalie Robehmed to discuss the ins and outs of ghostwriting in the hip-hop industry over a nice lunch at Streetbird Rotisserie in Harlem.
It’s that time of the year again, folks! Forbes has released their annual list for the 2015 Hip-Hop Cash Kings, and we finally have a new name in the top 5! Welcome, Drizzy Drake!
