Some major shakeups going on in the Def Jam building as of late! Sha Money XL is the latest to leave his post, leaving his gig as SVP of A&R for IDJ and heading to Epic Records as the EVP of Urban A&R. “As I embark on this new Epic journey,” Sha said in a statement, “I have a great vision for what the new record industry should be like, the music, the experience and lifestyle.” Congrats and good luck!
There were some strong rumors that Harlem’s Vinny Cha$e had gone to Bad Boy, after a tweet and a photo Vinny recently posted. “#NEWHARLEM is born !! S/o 2 @iamdiddy for the illest move #CHEER$BADBOY2013,” Vinny wrote. “#WeHere #Work #Cantstop #progress #americanbusiness.” Looks like that’s not the case, as XXL has confirmed he’s officially signed to Epic Records as of this weekend. Aside from a solo deal, he also got a group deal for his Cheer$ Club crew. Perhaps the Bad Boy thing is more of a song collab? Or maybe Diddy helped him get the Epic deal? Who knows, but either way, it’s a major move! Congrats to Vinny and his team!
Always good when you can balance out the bad news with some good! Yo Gotti revealed today that his Cocaine Muzik Group imprint has inked a multi-million dollar deal with LA Reid over at Epic Records! Congrats! Get the details via a statement from Gotti below.
Yesterday we published the audio of Emmett Till’s Estate talking about the influence of rap music and a certain lyric made by Lil Wayne on Future’s single, “Karate Chop.” Well, apologies are being issued today. Epic Records is saying that the tracked was leaked (SURE) out and now, they are taking the necessary steps to edit the song for re-release. L.A. Reid has even gone as far as reaching out to the family of Till to apologize. Great strategy! Drop down bottom for the full statement.
