Cleveland Kidnapping Survivors Open Up To Robin Roberts About Life After Captivity

Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus endured ten years of captivity by the hands of Ariel Castro. However, on May 6, 2013, being locked down was no longer an option. Berry had found a way to escape and dial 911. “I’ve been kidnapped and been missing for 10 years. I’m here. I’m free now,” a panicked Berry told the 911 operator. Now, Berry and DeJesus are doing big things. The two have collaborated on writing a book titled, Home: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland, and are now speaking with Robin Roberts during a 20/20 special that will air on Tuesday, April 28 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, about life after captivity.

“We are free, we love life…” These are the beginning words to Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland, a memoir written by two of the three women who were held captive in Cleveland, Ohio for more than a decade before escaping in 2013. Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were all held captive in a basement. Bound by chains and a heavy-set man named, Ariel Castro. After kidnapping them between 2002-2004, the 53-year-old would rape the women on a regular basis – Berry even birthed a daughter with him – and torture them, however, that didn’t kill their spirits completely. With the help of a small exit and a man by the name of Charles Ramsey, Berry got the chance to escape, saving herself and the lives of her daughter, DeJesus and Knight. Depicting their experiences then-and-now, Berry and DeJesus has got together to create this piece … Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland.

Cleveland Looking To Obtain An Outside Agency To Investigate The Death Of Tamir Rice

November 22, 2014 12-year-old Tamir Rice was shot and killed by Cleveland police officer, Timothy Loehmann. Rice was carrying a toy gun and Loehmann instantly reacted with deadly force. Since the fatal shooting, The Cleveland Division of Police has taken up an investigation involving excessive force from officers, however they are now hoping to hand the investigation of Tamir Rice’s death over to the Cuyahoga County sheriff’s office.
