At least 1,600 people were killed this past week during what is being recorded as the deadliest week of the Syrian civil war, thus far. The violence in Syria has been due to an 18-month-uprising against the government and there seems to be no let up anytime soon. The government of Bashar al-Assad’s attempts to suppress the uprising and remain in power has let to continuous bloodshed throughout the country leaving 5,000 people dead in the month of August alone.
