The late Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz, is the first Latina to be honored by Harlem’s Apollo Theater. She will join past honorees, such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and Michael Jackson, with a plaque outside of the famous landmark. This also marks the 50th anniversary of which Celia Cruz first performed at the Apollo. She died in 2003, at the age of 77 years old.
