As we reported yesterday, Weezy came in and swept the industry by storm this week, moving just shy of a MILLION units his first week out. Tha Carter IV ended up selling 964,000 copies, naturally landing the number one spot this week. Major congrats to Weezy and the YMCMB crew! Continue reading for the rest of the top 10. Marisa Mendez
Only 36k more and Tunechi would have hit that milli once again! However, 964,000 is still INSANE!! That’s more than double what a lot of major albums have done first week out in a very long time…and only falls behind Lady Gaga (who clocked in at 1.1 million) for biggest opening week this year. That platinum plaque is definitely his next week. Congrats, Tune! Continue reading for reactions from his YMCMB team. Marisa Mendez
This track surfaced earlier this year with no real details as to what it’s from or where it would land. Now via HHNM, we learned the updated track appears on DJ Holiday’s latest mixtape. Check out the Street Runner-produced “We Back Soon.” Marisa Mendez
Congrats to Lil Tunechi! As he rapidly approaches that one milli mark for the first week sales of his latest offering, Tha Carter IV, he’s already broken a record before the total sales figures come in! The record which was hit by Jay and Ye just 3 weeks ago has been broken now by Weezy! Details after the jump. Marisa Mendez
This would be crazy! According to the latest sales estimates, Tunechi is on track to possibly do ANOTHER first week opening of a MILLION records sold. No hip-hop artist has done that since…well, himself! Ha! Back when Tha Carter III dropped in June of 2008, the album pushed 1,005,545 units. Let’s see if he can top himself this time!! Go Weezy go!
