Cardell Hayes’ former lawyer, John Fuller has reiterated that his client was acting in self defense and begun laying out evidence to prove his case. Surveillance video was released that appeared to show Will Smith’s Mercedes SUV rear-ending Hayes’ Hummer, three blocks away from when the shooting happened. Hayes pulls over and Smith drives away. Hayes says he followed Smith to get his license plate number and then the shooting occurred. Hayes and his passenger, Kevin O’Neal say Smith had a gun in his car and they believe he was going to shoot them. A loaded 9mm gun was found in Smith’s car but it was never fired. An attorney for the Smith family refutes Hayes’ account and tells a different story. His main evidence is that Racquel Smith, Will’s wife was shot first.

Cardell Hayes says he shot Will Smith in self defense and has begun to point out evidence to support his claim. Surveillance video appeared to reveal that Smith rear-ended Hayes’ Hummer first then drove off. Hayes then followed Smith and hit his Mercedes which resulted in the two exchanging words and Hayes firing his gun. Hayes’ attorney, John Fuller said Smith was the aggressor and Hayes was told that Smith had a gun. After executing a search warrant, the New Orleans PD indeed found a loaded 9mm handgun in Smith’s SUV. Now Hayes is being dubbed a hero by the passenger who was in his car, Kevin O’Neal. The passenger says Hayes saved his life and multiple others as he believed Smith was going to shoot them.

More details are coming out about the Will Smith case and the evidence so far seem to support Cardell Hayes’ story. It was initially reported that Hayes shot Smith and his wife Raquel after rear-ending their Mercedes and getting into a verbal altercation. Hayes’ lawyer John Fuller says his client was not the aggressor; he implied that Smith was intoxicated and had a gun in his car. Well now the gun has been found.
